Prime Minister Edi Rama, in an interview for Top Channel at the opening of the May 11 parliamentary election campaign, was asked about the arrest of Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj.

While the journalist asked him how Veliaj’s arrest affected the Tirana election campaign, describing him as an “electoral machine”, the leader of the Socialist Party refused to comment, saying that all energy and focus are now focused on May 11, the day of voting.

Excerpts from the interview:

Muhamed Veliu: It is a fact that Erion Veliaj was an electoral machine in Tirana. How much did his arrest affect the Tirana election campaign?

Edi Rama: I will not make any comments on this. Now we are all focused on May 11 and every energy, every strength, every living thing is only for May 11.

We recall that Erion Veliaj was arrested on February 10 and later remanded in prison by decision of the Criminal Court of Kosovo, accused of the criminal offenses of “Passive corruption of high-ranking state officials or local elected officials” and “Laundering of the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity.”
