Food insecurity is at alarming levels. The failure of the AKU to control the meat that is traded has caused citizens in supermarkets, markets and restaurants to consume chicken meat infected with the salmonella bacteria.
Sources for ‘Ora investigim’ indicate that on 11.03.2025, 19,000 kg of chicken meat imported from Brazil was imported from the port of Durrës. According to the data on the label, the expiration date was 13.12.2026.
According to standard procedures, the AKU inspectors at the customs point take samples of the imported meat and send them for analysis. Until the results of the analysis are released, the meat must remain blocked.
Without waiting for the results of the analysis, the importing entity was allowed to put the entire product on the market for sale.
These are the results of the analysis, where 19,000 kg of chicken meat imported from Brazil turned out to be infected with the salmonella bacteria.
In this case, we are dealing with two violations, firstly, the laboratory under the Ministry of Agriculture issued the analysis result 5 days late, while the AKU, which should have kept the meat blocked until the result was received, allowed it to enter the market, causing the chicken meat with salmonella to be consumed by children and adults.
Concerned not for the health of citizens, but for the fact that this scandal could become media-related, the AKU has knocked on the door of the entity that imported the meat, so that it can be withdrawn from the market.
Sources for “Ora Investigim” indicate that out of 19,000 kg of chicken meat with salmonella, only 4,000 kg was blocked, while 15,000 kg turned out to have been sold.
The AKU inspectors have requested the importing entity for the distribution invoices, but the entity’s representative has “shown his muscles” to the inspectors by refusing to make the invoices available.
The irresponsibility of the institution headed by Manush Kullolli continues to endanger the lives of citizens, while the “flirtations” of businessmen with the AKU inspectors cause the latter to turn a blind eye to flagrant violations./OraNews
