The political leader of the Socialist Party, Erion Veliaj, has commented on the new political parties in Albania.
Speaking on the podcast “Majtas”, Veliaj underlined that today there are many new forces, but with very old ideas. He brought as an illustration the position of representatives of these parties in the Tirana City Council who have refused to vote for free subscriptions for students and pensioners only out of political resentment.
“Today I see many new parties, but with very old ideas. Sometimes I get tempted and say yes, well, you have the opportunity in the City Council to vote for economic aid, to vote for reconstruction after the earthquake because it is a left-wing program, it is social. When I see that they say that we are also left-wing, I say: Yes, it is in your honor to vote for the pensioner subscription, the student subscription, the dormitories that are half-price, the food in schools. I believe that in politics, what the Americans say is: “The record”. So your archive of decisions. “With so little decision-making power, you don’t support these, so why do you ask for more when you are not ready? Just for the anger of politics?! This means that the culture of anger is very old, so you can be young, but as long as you do things with anger and resentment, you will not move forward,” Veliaj stressed.
