Former president Bamir Topi has stated that only changing the election rules can bring change in Albania.
Topi made the comments in Euronews Albania, where he criticized the Berisha-Rama pact in 2008 for changing the electoral system.
Topi said that Berisha is not allowed to regret the mistake he made in 2008 and added that the system they voted for then has brought many consequences and an institutional crisis.
“On the one hand, we have an opposition that is non-existent and in crisis. Even in an identity crisis, they are no longer recognized as opposition. An opposition in such positions is a miserable opposition. People want change and you don’t guarantee it.
Only changing the election rules can make a difference. They made these rules together. Even to this day, Berisha does not repent, he does not allow his sedra to repent. For these people who do not reflect, you should tell them again what drama they have caused to the country. For the balance of institutions, but also nowadays.
President Zelensky is coming and it is not known if he will have a meeting with the president. The president comes second or third, it’s not normal. You can’t monopolize the meeting agenda”, said Topi.
