Erion Veliaj has temporarily left the detention cell in Durrës prison today and, accompanied by police forces, has testified at SPAK regarding the investigations against him.
Media sources indicate that Veliaj was questioned in the presence of his lawyers Ermir Beta and Artur Selmani and the testimony lasted for about 1 hour and 30 minutes. After the testimony, he returned to the cell, while neither the mayor nor the lawyers have given any communications to the media.
Media sources indicate that in today’s appearance at SPAK, prosecutors from the Special Prosecution Office have communicated the addition of a new charge, that of introducing prohibited items into the detention cells.
A day earlier, Albanian-Belgian businessman Elman Abule, who is under “House Arrest” measure, also testified at SPAK, while two days ago, one of Veliaj’s closest people, Alban Dokushi, who is the General Secretary of the Municipality of Tirana, testified.
Erion Veliaj was arrested at noon on February 10 at the Municipality of Tirana, while after a 1-year investigation, SPAK has filed charges for committing the criminal offenses “Passive corruption of high-ranking state officials or local elected officials”, committed in collaboration (9 times) and “Laundering of the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity”.
