The former mayor of Korça, Robert Kotmillo, passed away this Wednesday. Kotmillo led the municipality of the southeastern city from 1996 to 2000.

He gave the last interview of his life to Euronews Albania, where he revealed that he lived alone and in difficult economic conditions.

In his story for Euronews Albania, he spoke about his rich career, which, however, left nothing behind.

“I worked for 29 years as the chief engineer of the refrigerator company in Korça, I did a lot for the city and the country. Then, I was the chairman of the Municipal Council and for four years the mayor,” he declared in the interview given on October 19, 2024.

While indicating that he provided his food from a foundation in Korça, he expressed regret for corruption at the highest levels of Albanian politics.

“I am sorry to hear that six mayors and four ministers are in prison. It is serious that such people, who end up behind bars, have been at the head of municipalities or the country’s governing institutions. Very serious,” he said.
