The opposition held its next protest yesterday in the capital, where in addition to blocking several key points in Tirana, there were also tensions and clashes between opposition MPs and the police.
Citizens gathered around 17:00, blocking five key points in Tirana, the Black Bird roundabout, the Palace of Arrows roundabout, Wilson Square, Elbasan Street and the segment between the ministries and the Municipality of Tirana.
The police called several times for the roads to be cleared, as blocking them constitutes a criminal offense, but this call was rejected by the Democrats who said that they had received permission and that the police should have taken measures.
Sali Berisha was also present at this protest for the first time, after he had been under house arrest for almost 10 months. The leader of the Democratic Party gave his message that they will not stop until the main objectives are achieved, a caretaker government and free elections.
“Nothing prevents the democrats from achieving their objectives. Today is one of the most special days of December, but today is again the day of the democrats. Here we are on duty, in protest, revolt, in disobedience
This winter promises to be difficult, both for the worker in Tirana and for the boss in Belgrade. Even in Belgrade, students are shaking the dictator to the core, and in Tirana, the dictator has no future. I greet all the democrats who have gathered today.
I greet all the citizens of Tirana and I assure you that this civil disobedience is in the interest of every citizen of Tirana and Albania and that we will not stop without achieving our objectives, a technical government, free elections.”, said Sali Berisha.
During the protest, there was also an incident with the deputy leader of the Democratic Party and the deputy speaker of the Parliament, Agron Gjekmarkaj, who was reported to have been raped by the police. Because he did not feel well, he also lost consciousness, then he was transported to the Trauma Hospital.
This act was condemned by Sali Berisha, who said that the police will be held accountable for these acts of violence, which according to him were ordered by Edi Rama.
After the protest ended, the police also made several escorts to the police stations.
