The meeting of the Municipal Council of Himara has started with tension, where it is expected that the new head of the municipality of this city will be appointed.
Present in the premises where the meeting is being held are many supporters of Fredi Beleri, who clashed with the police.
Citizens oppose the transfer of the mayor’s office to one of the vice-presidents from the ranks of the Socialist Party.
Under the calls “out” and cheering Beleri, the citizens interrupted the work of the Municipal Council meeting and demanded the exit from the hall of the prefect of Vlora, Vangjel Tavo.
Tensions led to the meeting being postponed to a later time when the situation is calmer.
In this session, it was planned to vote on which of the two vice-presidents, Blerina Bala or Pervin Gjikuria, will lead the municipality of Himare until the new elections.
The Socialists have the majority in the municipal council of Himara, 13 votes against 8 of the opposition.
The vacancy created in the leadership of Himara Municipality came after the acting mayor Jorgo Goro was arrested on March 23. He is being investigated by SPAK with suspicions that he has misused his office in two cases, alienating two properties in Dhërmi, where the final beneficiary of the land was businessman Artan Gaçi, former SP deputy.
Meanwhile, the elected mayor of Himarë municipality, Fredi Beleri, could not take the oath due to the non-granting of a special permit by GJKKO.
