Prime Minister Edi Rama received this Tuesday at the Prime Minister’s Office the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, Kaja Kallas. During the joint press conference, Kallas commented on Prime Minister Rama’s statements that only the Socialist Party can join Albania in the EU and that a political rotation would lead to delays in integration.
She stated that all political parties must cooperate for the country’s integration into the EU, as she emphasized that the reforms that need to be implemented are very difficult.
The EU’s chief diplomat, Kaja Kallas, said that all political parties must engage in EU membership.
“I come from a country that has completed its journey towards the EU and is already a member state. It is clear that this journey requires the cooperation of all parties because in fact some very difficult reforms need to be implemented, which need to be fully implemented and for this we need full support and backing. What I understand here is that in Albania the citizens have given their support, their backing for Albania’s journey and its membership in the EU.
A broad support and this is what Albanians want to achieve, for this we need difficult reforms that require the support of everyone in society. This is the ultimate goal, not just reforms but also their implementation which requires the full support of political parties”, said Kallas.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the only force that can achieve EU membership is the Socialist Party.
He said that, despite the fact that the EU cannot comment on the electoral process in our country, he would never say this even if he thought about it.
“The EU does not decide who wins and who loses the elections in Albania, nor does it link its policy to who is elected in Albania. But what I am saying is that there is no other force that can carry out this mission. The EU cannot determine this. Even if they think about it, they will never say it,” said Rama.
